Apply for a Mixer Team
About the Mixer Teams
We're excited that the Bay Area Musical Improv Festival will be creating two Mixer Teams—ad-hoc teams made up of experienced musical improvisers who get to perform at the festival.
Each mixer team will have a performance slot during the 4:30pm shows on Saturday, October 25 or Sunday, October 26.
The goal of the mixer teams is to provide performance opportunities to those who are not already performing in the festival. However the teams may also include some individuals who are already performing as part of an act in the festival.
How The Mixer Teams Will Work
After the application deadline on August 1st, the festival committee will select players based on their applications and assign them to a team of 7 or 8 players. Each team will also be assigned a Musical Director and Coach.
Each team will have a 2-hour rehearsal and a 20-minute performance slot at the 4:30pm show on Saturday or Sunday.
Each team member will be required to contribute $40 to help cover the costs of their coach, Musical Director and rehearsal space.
Application Requirements
In order to apply for a mixer team, you must have performed or studied musical improv at the intermediate to advanced level (e.g. have taken more than one musical improv class or performed regularly with a musical improv group). While we would love to include beginners, the limited rehearsal time necessitates focusing on those with some experience.
We particularly encourage applications from individuals who are not already performing in the festival. Though individuals who are already performing as part of an act in the festival, including performers from out of town, are also eligible to apply and will be considered.
All applicants must be available for one of the two show slots at 4:30pm on Saturday or Sunday.
The deadline to apply is August 1st.
The Bay Area Musical Improv Festival is run by Bay Area Musical Improv, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit whose mission is create opportunities for musical improvisers in the San Francisco Bay Area.
