2025 Festival Shows

Four Days. Eight Shows. Twenty-Three Acts.

This year's festival features performers from around the Bay Area, and as far afield as Chicago; Honolulu; Los Angeles; Naples, FL; Portland, OR; San Diego; and Seattle. Every show provides something new and unique, ranging from a rock opera to a puppet musical to a call-in radio show to a Star Trek parody musical--all made up on the spot based on an audience suggestion!

All show tickets go on sale September 2 at 12:00pm Pacific Time.

Festival Opening Pizza Party

Kick off the festival weekend in style at the Festival Opening Party! This is your chance to meet a bunch of new friends and catch up with old ones over games and free pizza. This party is for musical Improvisers, musical improv enthusiasts and musical improv newbies alike, whether you're visiting from out of town or live just up the street.

Did we mention it's FREE? Start your festival weekend off right--come mingle with this incredible community and let's party!

The Fledglings

The Fledglings presents DIAL IT IN! An improvised call-in radio show where the audience can dedicate a song to someone and this talented team of musical improvisers makes one up for them on the spot, ranging from high octane rock ballads to disco to doo-wop.

Performers: Rochelle Urban, Laura Zaro, Ming Wong, Nicole Wong, and Justin Cho.

 

 

Teen Girl Book (Chicago)

This improvised musical is inspired by the classic coming-of-age stories of the early 2000s. You pick the summer plans for each of the four friends, then sit back and watch the hilarity unfold as they improvise their own musical "teen girl book".

Knockoff Broadway

It's opening (and closing) night of a brand-new Broadway-style musical comedy that is totally off-script! Every laugh-inducing lyric, every heart-melting melody and every show-stopping song, is improvised based on your suggestion.

Grandpa Phil Does a Bedtime Musical (Seattle)

Snuggle up kiddies, because grandpa Phil is going to read you a story. Since he's exhausted all the existing ones, he'll have to make one up. Yes, he'll include songs. But after that you really MUST go to bed.

Soul Sista Comedy (Los Angeles)

Black History Musical Improvised invites the audience to go on a melanated musical journey that isn’t always accurate---but it’s entertaining as hell.

Flash Mob Musical

It's opening night---and the writing team hasn't even started the musical! Flash Mob Musical takes you into the writers room for a never-before-seen musical, creating scenes and songs on the spot with the help of your suggestions. Can they finish the story before time runs out?

Performers: Neil Pomerleau, Christine Kwong, Debra Schifrin, Dustin Clingman, James Liu, and Kate Ahern.

 

 

Ivories Guy (Naples, FL)

Ralph Krumins delivers a one-of-a-kind solo performance that leaves audiences spellbound. Through intimate, spontaneous conversations with the crowd, Ralph masterfully channels each character’s dreams, joys, and fears into heartfelt, original songs.

B.A.B.E. Presents: I Love Musicals (Portland, OR)

This 1950's/"I Love Lucy" inspired improvised musical is an ode to wackiness & classic Americana, crafted by four world-traveling improvisers: Betse Green, Aden Nepom, Bill Cernansky and Eric Nepom (aka B.A.B.E.).

La Spazzatura

La Spazzatura [Italian: (n) trash] is low brow opera, high brow improv. Based on a single audience suggestion, they perform comedic arias, duets, and perfectly executed recitativo* accompanied by piano. *That sound you heard was Mozart rolling in his grave.

No Strings Attached (Seattle)

Have you ever wondered what puppets do when they’re not working on kids' shows? Buckle up. Avenue Q meets RENT as these singing puppets leave a trail of poorly thought out ideas in their wake.

Special Festival Mixer Team

This Mixer Team is made up of eight individual experienced improvisers who have never played together before! Created just for this festival, these eight improvisers will rehearse together for the first time on Saturday, then perform for you! It’s an experiment in chemistry where ANYTHING can happen!

 

 

Call & Response

The recently-formed group Call & Response improvises music based in the African American soul, gospel and R&B traditions. Our foundational muse is Black freedom, and we like to improvise with other subjects as story and metaphor for songs of resistance.

The Warriors of Ver-Choo (Honolulu, HI)

Sean Choo and Jose Ver, the Warriors of Ver-Choo combat the evil forces of anti-comedy with their kung fu joy improv powers!

Sonic Boom is proud to present it's Attend-the-Tale Musical: The story of one person who's life will be forever changed in a joyful and fast-paced improvised musical journey.

BATS Improv

Villain Origin Story is a fully improvised musical centered around a well known villain of the audience’s choosing. Watch as we go back in time to the Villain’s formative years to understand their original hopes and dreams and the circumstances that ultimately led them to their dark path.

A narrative fantasy musical set anywhere but here and anytime but now.

Un-Scripted Theater Company presents Way Back to Today, the Updated American Songbook. Transport yourself back in time and discover old standards that you’ve never heard before.

USS IMPROVISE: A Parody Star Trek Musical (Portland, OR)

The crew of the USS Improvise bring to life the characters from the classic (and arguably, best) Star Trek series; Star Trek: The Next Generation in a never before seen parody episode completely improvised on the spot. Oh, and did we mention it's a musical?!

 

 

ANARCHY: The Improvised Rock Opera (Chicago)

ANARCHY: The Improvised Rock Opera takes one audience suggestion and creates a fully improvised comedy rock opera with live musical accompaniment! We are long-form musical improvisers specializing in strong vocals, modern narratives, and angst.

All That Jazz creates fully improvised, Broadway-style musicals set in the swingin’ jazz era of the 1920's-1950's. Join these hep cats and kittens as they transport you back in time! It’s the cat’s meow!

Gail and Jess Try Their Best

Gail Gallagher (an MD) and Jessica Landis (a musical improviser) take questions from the audience and provide advice of dubious quality in the form of original improvised songs.

Singing In The Range

Singing in the Range presents a fully improvised musical mono-scene, exploring character relationships and emotional arcs through spontaneous songs and grounded storytelling. Each show unfolds in real time, with no cuts or edits—just connection, music, and heart.

Performers: Salma Soliman, Brynn Doucette, Cody Saunders, Jon Baum, Noah Bender, and Ben Shiff.

Hope. Struggle. Angst. RiOt is the hilarious, fiery improvised rock opera with ALL of the emotions. Every foot stomping anthem, every heart-wrenching ballad, every laugh-inducing moment, spontaneously created just for you!

Thee Improvised Musical (Los Angeles)

THEE IMPROVISED MUSICAL is a polished, high-octane, fully improvised Tony-caliber musical that will leave you thinking it's scripted. Featured in Variety, LA Weekly and BroadwayWorld, they've performed over 200 shows over 10 years.

Closing Party with Live-Band Improvised Karaoke

Do not miss out on this fabulous FREE event to celebrate the end of the festival weekend. This is a party unlike any other--featuring the chance to improvise songs based on random titles pulled out of a hat with a live rock band backing you! 

We'll be taking over the entire All Out Comedy theater for the evening, so you can socialize, grab a drink or hop on stage. Come hang out with all your festival friends and the community for one last time and also rock your heart out with the band!
